[page 1] Fernandina Fla [Florida] October 30th 1863 Dear Fother I take my pen in hand to let you no that we are all well at present and hope these fiew lines will find you all the same we left Morris Island the second of this month and come here we are dewing garison duty now and we have first rate times we onley have one hours drill a day and plenty to eat and ware Enos sent seome money to you when we was on Moris [Morris] Island and hante hurd from hit yet so you think I had better come home before I enlist again and I think [page 2] [I think] I will for their ant much talk about it now and I guess I had better let good enough alone dond let sombody else try three years or during the war in my plase that is some of them felows that is paing their three hundred dollars now I was out a gunen one day after wild cattle their was ten of us and the colel and three or four other oficers along and we got three beaves we went in wagens we had to go about twelve miles it took nearley all of the time to go and come for we was onley about a hour kiling the three they was the first wild cattle that I ever saw and [page 3] They was wild they are as wild as the fox is when the hound gits after them we had a big time with one and he was a male bool it took three or four shots to kill him you say that I have sent a hundred and ninety three dollars home in all it dond soot my acount try and lok [of] over it again and see if if you are not mistaken well I guess Charleston is not taken yet but wen it is taken you will get to here from it as soon as we will I forgot to say that I received to letters from you and one from Marey [Mary] Jane no more at present write soon G K Pierce [envelope with postage stamp] Mr Ezra Pierce Wilmington D [paper torn] [stamped] FERNANDINA NOV 9 '63 FLA.
