[page 1] Fernandina Florida October 10th, 1863 Dear Sister I take this opertunety to let you no that we are well at present and hope those fiew linds may find you all the saim I received your leter the tweteyth of September and was verey glad to hear from you but I havent had time two awnser untill now on acount of moving we left Moris [Morris] Island the second of this month on the steamer Boston and landed hear about the seventh or eights i dont no wich no dout whel we got som fresh bred two night we havent had eney for a about four months the crackers was verey good wich we had onley they [page 2] had worms in them about a half inch long and about a dozen in each cracker I had a kind of a moshen two reinlist for three years but havent dun it yet but i think I will if their is eney chance for me in the cavrey Joseph Booth died the night we left Moris [Morris] Island he had his discharge two to home and ws left in the ninth main hospitel with those fiew remarks I will close good by for this time but you must rite soon and tel the rest two I still remain your brother Enos W Pierce dont forget to right soon and direct as you did befor [two lines scratched out and illegible]
