I now take the presant opertunety of wrighten you A few linds to inform you that we george and I ar well and I hope you ar all well we have moved about theirtey miles furder we ar now on main land and still in Florida in the vilage of Jacksonville we are quartred in A terey large houce this is A verey nice place as far as I have sean yet we landed hear the night of the twenty fourth of march this the onley full redment hear their is five compneys of the fourth new hamshir the pickets was druv in the night we landed and some of them last night Compney G of our redgment was on picket last night and the same compney G of the other redgment

the night we landed hear their was one of the new hamsher felows shot and A nother badley wonded five taken prisners their was non of our felows hurt their was A ball struck his gun clost by his hand when he was coming to A redey we was all caled out in A line and loded redey to march on but the word came that they had got awaw this hapned about two oclock at night we had to sleap the rest of the night with belts and catrigs lockes on i ges that the rebls dont intend to do eney thing now but scout around at night and shute the pickets I sent you A check in the other leter and george sent you one I wish you would right and let me no wether you got them or not yours truley from   Enos W Pierce
