The event marks the beginning of what pro ? testers hope is a loud and organized campaign to get the state to build a bypass around Newark. Armed with picket signs and candles, protest? ers enveloped the corners of the small res idential intersect ion at West Main Street and Hil l side Avenue. Police said a safe was damaged when forced open but no money was inside during the burglary. Police said a door was forced open to gain entry to the building.
