Abstract
Description
Original in Sypherd Papers. Continued to have trouble with stomach; flew to Boston on July 25 and went through usual examination by Dr. [Sarah] Jordan; she found ulcer not active and trouble due to colitis; changed diet, and was put to bed for a week, after which flew directly back to Mexico; relations who have been visiting since July 1, left for home last Friday; was very pleasant having them; sees little point in writing to [Alfred] Knopf again about book until costs can be guaranteed; knows what his answer would be; is expecting Rodney Sharp in Mexico after his return from Europe; will talk to him then about helping to guarantee costs of publication; has done nothing on memoirs since April, but hopes to get back to it soon; saw Prof. [William L.] Langer while in hospital in Boston and he was most encouraging about book, but thought it should be two books instead of one in two volumes, and suggested other events in which he knew Messersmith had participated which should be covered.
