Abstract
Description
Colleague from History Department called to talk of serious library problem; he and others in his department concerned over dearth of materials available to graduate students in history and political science in connection with work on theses and research papers; it occurred to Dr.[Walther] Kirchner that Messersmith surely has valuable material in field of foreign relations - letters, memoranda, reports, etc. which would be of immense value to graduate students and research professors; through long association, knows Messersmith through the years had had important contacts in diplomatic field and has ideas about international relations which should be preserved for posterity; that the record of Messersmith's accomplishments, ideas, and intimate relationships with significant world events should be preserved in the library of the University of Delaware and become accessible to students in history and government would give great satisfaction to all Delawareans; knowing Messersmith's attachment to both Delaware and the University, hopes he will be responsive to the idea.
