Abstract
Description
Sorry Johnston had to leave Mexico City before meeting was over, but glad he is happy with results of Conference; certainly it was most significant of all inter-American Conferences; time and circumstances were right; every one of the American republics came to meeting with pre-occupations as to internal problems and world picture; Latin friends are primarily producers of raw materials and importers of manufactured goods and are apprehensive about Russia's controlled economy and England's increasingly controlled economy; concerning political attitudes of Russia and England they are equally in doubt, they knew U.S. was attached to principle of free enterprise and access to markets; all animated by desire to find broad solutions of a constructive character; Conference was carefully prepared for and leadership of Ezequiel Padilla was significant; U.S. delegation an excellent one; appreciates Johnston's kind remarks; it is always pleasant to hear one is doing a good job; will probably be going home soon and will look forward to seeing Johnston.
