Has heard indirectly through John Gunther Messersmith is well; saw Gunther in Brussels and Geneva; imagines Messersmith watching trend of events with apprehension; knows Messersmith's dislike of Britain's too great willingness for appeasement and his concern at home over neutrality bill; continued gaining of strength of democratic countries encouraging; Hitler doesn't want war, but takes English appeasement efforts as cowardice and he may miscalculate Britain as his predecessors did in 1914; hopes England will not compromise on Danzig as this would assure Germany an undisturbed supply of iron ore from Sweden.
