Abstract
Description
Dr. Thomsen called to protest speech made in Cleveland by Secretary Harold Ickes on Dec. 18; said speech was deliberate attack on German head of state by member of President's cabinet; asked that government of U.S. make public apology; Welles replied that Ickes statements expressed the feelings of 99 percent of American people, that they were no worse than derogatory stories that appeared in German press, and that he would make no public comment on the protest or his reply.
