Abstract
Description
Chancellor's authority being challenged from several directions - the newly formed Austrian Nazi organization and the resurrected former Heimwehr (Home Guard) organizations, now called "Protective" associations; believes Chancellor strong enough to withstand pressure; he would have support of the church, the Peasants Union, the Starhemberg faction of the Heimwehr, and probably the faction led by Major [Emil] Fey, as well as all of the Legitimists; Legitismists know Chancellor's attitude on restoration of monarchy and that he is keeping restoration up his sleeve as final card to play; army and at least half of police will also stand by Chancellor; negotiation of trade agreement with Germany not progressing; Germany wants as much as she can get for as little as possible; but Austria standing firm.
