[page 1] James island June the 21 1862 Dear Sister i take this opertunity to let you no that we are all well and hope that these fiuw lines may find you the same i received your leter about a month ago the reson that i dident rite sooner was because we had martching orders and i said that i wouldent rite till i got to charleston but we trovel to slo i that that i would have to let you no that we are still alive we have bin here for [about] nearly to weakes the corn is out in tosel down here and we will soon have rosting ear we are incampt close to a field of corn of about 75 acres i hardley have time to [page 2] For we have to go on picket about eavrey other night our rergment I was in line of batle for nearly three days last weak we have had to skermeshes and a snorten ofd fight i have to go on guard and i haint eny more time to rite i still remain your brother G K Pierce
